rubber glove ceramics

rubber glove ceramics, aka Paula Doherty, makes pottery in her Glasgow studio and currently sells work online, by commission, and at markets.

Her work is predominantly inspired by the natural world, Scottish landscapes and found rocks. She mostly works in stoneware, pairing traditional throwing methods with bold pronounced forms to create ceramics which are tactile and invite curiosity.

Through her practice, she hopes to create everyday items which can be both long-lasting functional favourites, and bring a little joy to the user's every day.

The name ‘rubber glove ceramics’ derives from the iconic purple rubber glove Paula uses when she is making pottery. She has chronic eczema on her hand and instead of shying away from this, she is embracing the hurdle, tackling her triggers, and coining it as a trademark look.

Alongside her own practice, Paula has facilitated arts and ceramics workshops for initiatives including Govanhill Baths, Art Space G41, BAAT Region 15 and Wild Gorse Pottery. She also works as a studio technician at Wild Gorse Pottery.
